Book Notes: August 3, 2022 - Opposite Day

Welcome back for another round of book reviews! I've got a couple of opposites for you today -- fiction and non-fiction. I hope you'll see something that interests you. Let's get to it, shall we?

Book Review: Death's Knight (War of the Lich book 1) by Jena Ray & Matthew T. Summers

Death's Knight (War of the Lich Book 1)Death's Knight by Jena Rey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An Excellent Fantasy Series Starter

I must say I started reading this book with a healthy dose of skepticism. What books most people say are super great, I usually end up disliking. However, Death's Knight was a pleasant surprise. I loved the characters. I love the creativity of the book world. Overall, this was a joy to read and I didn't want to put it down. With minimal and appropriately placed rough language and no gratuitous or graphic sex nor violence, this also classified as a decent book for teens, in my opinion, far better than some YA material that's out there. So if you're looking for a good, solid fantasy series full of adventure and peopled with fascinating characters, give this one a try.

Book Review: Why Is There Evil? by R.C. Sproul

Why Is There Evil? (Crucial Questions)Why Is There Evil? by R.C. Sproul
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent and Clear Teaching

This book tackles a difficult topic, boldly teaching truth from the Scriptures. Make sure you really want this question answered before cracking open this one. Sproul pulls zero punches. But if you want a truthful answer from a person who truly cared about the state of human souls during his lifetime, I recommend it.

About Death's Knight, I was so excited to be able to read a newer fantasy book that stuck to fantasy. It's exactly what a fantasy book should be, focused more on the adventure and questing, rather than on one couple's relationship. And while I hope to see the hero and heroine grow closer over the course of the series, I feel there may be a somewhat bittersweet ending to this one. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the journey, though. And isn't that what reading fiction is all about? I can't wait to read the next book!

About Why Is There Evil?, these little booklets by Dr. Sproul are short, but not always easy to read. They're intended to make you dig deeper into God's Word and learn what God is saying to His people. This one works to answer a question which everyone asks. His answer won't satisfy anyone but Christians, though anyone could read this book and learn something from the reading. The series this little booklet belongs to is still listed as being free, as far as I know. If you think you might enjoy reading this one and others by Dr. Sproul, you might want to grab the set while it's still free.

Thank you all so much for reading my post today! Did you see something you want to check out for yourself? If so, which one? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below.

Please do come back Friday when I'll share what's been happening in my writing life lately. I'll also keep you updated on the publishing progress of The Tale of Outh'n Durr. I'm chomping at the bit to get that published but...well, come back Friday to hear more about that. I may have a kitten video, but I make no promises. They're time consuming to edit and upload and I have a super busy week this week, as well as next. More on that Friday, too.
