Book Notes: March 1, 2023 - Clean Romance

Welcome back! I hope you're having a great week so far, in spite of the crazy weather reports from all over. I've got a couple of clean romance novel reviews for you today. And if you keep scrolling, you'll find today's writing prompt. It's not only good for all kinds of authors, but I bet these might prompt an interesting song or perhaps a textile craft. Why not challenge yourself?

Book Review: His First Love by Liz Isaacson

Contemporary Inspirational Cowboy Romance

His First Love (Ivory Peaks, #1)His First Love by Liz Isaacson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.25 Stars

I really enjoy Liz Isaacson's inspirational romances. One thing which kept this one from being five stars for me was the length. It felt like there was more going back and forth than there should be, maybe. Also, I wasn't so happy to have the MCs story broken up by characters who had very little to do with moving the plot of this story along. The next book should give them plenty of screen time, right?
So, while this book was good and checked off the clean, sweet, inspirational, and romance boxes, there was some room for improvement. If you enjoy those things, do give this book a try.

Book Review: Hidden Danger by Jennifer Pierce

Inspirational Suspense Romance

Hidden Danger (Small-Town Guardians #1)Hidden Danger by Jennifer Pierce
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Good Suspense Romance

This wasn't the best book I've read from this genre but it was good. I figured out who the villain was early on, but the author had a compelling second possible villain. I was definitely surprised when the antagonist was revealed. So that was good. I liked that these characters prayed often and are also showing they study the Bible. There were some interesting typos. And I wasn't so happy with Maggie waffling so much, even after she got the full explanation. But the story was good, definitely ranks a solid 4 stars to me. If you enjoy inspirational suspense romance, do try it!

Just Keep Writing: Wednesday Whimsy

If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.

Rules:

  1. You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
  2. Please keep the material you write clean (ie. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
  3. Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.

Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.

If you haven't done it yet, please take a moment to stop by Julia's gallery at Pexels.com. I don't think you'll mind the time you spend there. I have to say these cows are my favorite. My dad raised cows for years before he finally had to sell them. But we had the ornery kind. These look so peaceful, don't they?

Thanks for spending a little time on the scenic route today. I hope you enjoyed the post and maybe found some inspiration about your next book or writing project.

Tomorrow, I'll have another prompt ready for you.

Until next time,
