Book Notes: June 7, 2023 - Cowboy Romance Book Reviews
Welcome writers and readers! Today, on the scenic route, I've got a couple of book reviews to share with you. If you're interested in cowboys and romance, then do check out the reviews and the books they're about. But if you're here for the word prompt, just keep scrolling. It follows the reviews.
Book Review: A Cowboy to Keep by Various Authors

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
All of these stories were pleasant to read. My favorite story overall was probably "Knox" by Susan May Warren. I love a good suspense romance. My least favorite was probably "Crumpets and Cowpies," but not because it wasn't a good story. Shanna Hatfield just has a tendency to dwell on the physical attraction aspect of romance more than the others, which isn't something I look for in a sweet romance which is also inspirational.
You'll find a nice collection here of both contemporary cowboy romances and historical ones. There are three of each. All are clean stories with interesting plots. They're all inspirational stories, too, though the emphasis varies from book to book.
If you want to buy several books and get a good set for your money, I recommend this one.

Book Review: Family Ties by Carolyne Aarsen (a series collection)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Sweet, Clean Romance
This collection of romance tales is sweet and clean. There's a good bit of prayer among the MCs, and their lives show as living what they believe, even though they aren't perfect. Each story is unique, and I found it easy to step into them. If you're looking for sweet, inspirational romance, with cowboys and a soldier as heroes, then try this set of novels.

Just Keep Writing: Wednesday Whimsy
If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.
Rules:
- You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
- Please keep the material you write clean (i.e. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
- Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.
Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.
This set of words looks promising. What do you think?
So did you find something new to add to your TBR list? What about the prompt? Was it helpful? Let me know what you thought about today's post in the comments below. I'd love to hear from my readers.
Tomorrow, I'll have another word prompt to share with you. I hope you'll return. If you're finding these prompts useful, please be sure to share the link with your creative friends.
Until next time,
