Just Keep Writing: August 7, 2023 - Monday Musings & Something Extra!

Welcome to the scenic route! It's great to have you here with me today. I've got a three word prompt to share with you. Are you ready to create something awesome? I am. Let's get to it, shall we?

Just Keep Writing: Monday Musings

If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.

Rules:

  1. You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
  2. Please keep the material you write clean (i.e. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
  3. Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.

Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.

I hope you're seeing some possibilities in this set of words. There are a couple of genres which stood out to me when I looked at them today. While I'm going to be working on a few catch-up projects, I might hold on to those ideas for some writing later on.

Writing Challenge! #AboutTheAuthorAugust 2023

I was browsing through Goodreads when I stumbled upon a fellow indie author's name. I'd read her first YA fantasy book after winning the ebook version a few years ago. I enjoyed the story and can't wait to see the next installment. You might like to read her book, The Assassin's Daughter by Jameson C. Smith. Check it out on Goodreads

Imagine my surprise when I saw she's still hosting her #abouttheauthoraugust challenge. I couldn't wait to get started on this. I'm late to the party, but there's still time to complete the challenge.

So for the next three weeks, I'll be sharing a little more in my blog posts each day. Today's prompt is to introduce myself.

My name is Melody Kittles and I write clean fantasy under the pen name Robin McElveen. I've been writing pretty faithfully since 2016. My determination to write has been slowly simmering for years. I spent one summer writing stories because my mom wanted my sister and I to have something to do when it was too hot or too rainy outside. I still have my notebook.

I'm married, and quite happily so. My husband, John, is retired from the US Air Force and we've been married since 1994. We have one son and two daughters, and I also know the pain and grief of miscarriage twice over. Our family is blessed with one grafted in son (he's not officially adopted, but we call him son anyway) and one daughter-in-law. Recently, we were blessed with a granddaughter, as well. We've been through a whole lot of things, seen and been to several different places, and participated in many activities, from throwing pottery, to throwing axes and knives. And let me tell y'all, God is definitely good. We're all still alive, still determined to remain so as long as He allows.

Come back tomorrow to check out my response to the next item on the list: three facts about my work-in-progress.

(Links in this section will take you to The Assassin's Daughter page on Goodreads and to Jameson's website/blog post on this challenge. Photo is also linked to the challenge on her website.)

Thanks so much for taking a bit of your time and sharing it with me on the scenic route today. Your support and encouragement are appreciated more than you know.

Tomorrow, I'll have another word prompt. Please come back and invite your creative friends along, too.

Until next time,
