Book Notes: October 4, 2023 - Mysterious Offerings

Welcome to the scenic route! I hope you're ready to check out some interesting books packed with suspense and mystery. If so, you're in the right place. I'll be sharing suspense romance and fantasy reviews every Wednesday in October. Ready to see today's reviews? Let's go!

Book Review: Covert Mission (Triumph Over Adversity #5) by Lynn Shannon

Kept Me Guessing

I love Lynn Shannon's suspense romances because they keep me guessing. The only annoying thing about the last couple or so books I've read by her was that there were a few places where the wrong word was used. It doesn't ruin the story, thankfully. I highly recommend this book and series if you enjoy inspirational suspense romance.

Well-written Fantasy

I really enjoyed this fantasy tale. The world building was solid. The characters were people I loved and got easily invested in. And the plot was interesting, too. It was nice to find a shifter fantasy romance tale which was clean as well as interesting. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy from teens on up.

Both of these books were enjoyable. It warms my heart to see more fantasy authors focusing on a romance that grows slowly and naturally, rather than focusing on the more momentary passions that fuel what passes for a contemporary or historical novel these days.

I remember when you had to go digging for novels which included such graphic scenes. Now, not only can you find many of them free or at a reduced cost, they're everywhere. For every truly good story out in the world, there are probably fifteen more romance erotica novels. To each their own, but I'd rather have a story with more substance and believability than that. Something with staying power, usually stands the test of time, whether that's a story or something in real life.

Just Keep Writing: Wednesday Whimsy

If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.

Rules:

  1. You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
  2. Please keep the material you write clean (i.e. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
  3. Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.

Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.

What do you think? Are story ideas popping up with this collection of random words? I hope so!

I hope you enjoyed today's post. Did you find a new book to add to your reading list? Or did the word prompt help you with a creative project? Let me know in the comments below.

Tomorrow, I'll have another word prompt ready to share with you. I hope you'll visit again and bring more creative friends along with you.

Until next time,
