Author Journey: November 3, 2023 - Nano Begins
Welcome to the scenic route! I have some author life updates to share with you today along with the three word prompt. I hope you're ready. Let's go!
Author Journey: NaNoWriMo 2023 is Live!
Yep. It's that time of year again when many writers and beginning writers embark on a mission to write 50k words of a story. I know that qualifies as a novel for certain genres. But in my genre, it's almost double. So I usually end up with half a novel if I start from scratch.
This year, I'm editing Over Land & Under Stone, book 3 in my Children of Y'Dahnndrya series. It's going alright so far. I'm on target as of yesterday. The picture I share with you today shows me as behind schedule because I haven't edited anything yet today. I'll be working in the evening because I usually have better focus then.
Have you started a Nano project? If so, why not tell me a little about in the comments. I'd love to hear about what you're working on.
Writer's Life: It Keeps Going On, and On, and On...
I have to laugh at myself sometimes. And I do, believe me! But other days, I find it so hard to laugh. Wednesday was a tough day for me. I didn't want to do anything but sleep and eat. I edited anyway, though it may not have been the best job I've done. But I did it. And honestly, that was one of the few bright spots in my work day.
Yesterday was a day of rushing around. My husband and I always try to attend a mid-week Bible study. Our daughters sometimes go with us, as they are able. But it means I have to have a schedule in place and stick to it. I couldn't stick to that schedule yesterday. Despite that, I still edited a chapter of my story and worked on a few of the character profiles, just refreshing my memory about these characters I haven't set eyes on in probably a year or more. I did this at one of the local cafes after I'd uploaded some new Steam games and updated another. Some days, I wish our internet was better. But other days, I'm glad it's mediocre. You gotta really want to live in our area if you move here, because whether it's first responders or internet, it's all pretty slow.
Spartacus is doing well. We had no luck switching him to another brand of wet food. I really hope the one he's eating now isn't discontinued. Right now, he's lounging in front of my heater, grooming and playing with one of his little mice. He loves those, springs, string, and feathers.
Just Keep Writing: Friday Fascicles
If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.
Rules:
- You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
- Please keep the material you write clean (i.e. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
- Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.
Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.
I hope you have fun creating with this set of words. Let me know whether you find them helpful and what kind of story or project you're working on in the comments.
That's it for today, fellow creatives. I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful. I'll be back next week with another round of word prompts, book reviews, and author life updates. Please visit again and bring a few more friends with you.
Until next time,
