Brain Not Brain-ing?

Vintage style noble woman at writing desk

Welcome to the scenic route! From today’s title, I can assume you’ll know today’s post is gonna be a short one. Lemme ‘splain…

Author Journey

Life’s been so hectic these past few months. My diet is once again out of whack and I’m going to have to adjust. I need new glasses I can’t afford. I’m transitioning one daughter out of our house… slowly but surely… as she and her husband get settled into their apartment.

In all that busyness, I’ve been struggling just to keep writing. I started my prompt stories for that reason. I need to create new things, not just work on editing. And since the world of Y’Dahnndrya needs more editing than creation right now, I’m getting burned out on it again.

I can’t afford another season of burnout, so the prompt stories may just save my writing career. You’ll find them on my a special page for those who subscribe to my blog. It’s free to sign up and new stories will go directly to your email inbox. The password will give you access to previous stories you may have missed.

I’ve been having some fun and some success with these little flash fiction stories. I’m torn about the genres being all over the place. But the reality is that sometimes, you just have to write what comes to mind. Sometimes, I’m at an inn somewhere in Y’Dahnndrya, and sometimes I’m at a cafe down the street in a random, modern neighborhood.

In other news, I still haven’t switched over to the printer yet. My goal is to do that ASAP, but it requires work with the cover art and I’m dreading the cost which may not work for our budget right now. I could offer pre-orders from the new publisher, but that would lock me into a certain date and I can’t get past that block in my head. So I really don’t know when that’s going to happen. I’ll keep you posted, though, and until I remove them from Draft2Digital, my books will still be available for purchase. Anything ordered before I remove them will be printed and shipped, so no worries there, either.

Writer’s Life

In other news, my youngest first cousin, who’s in his 30’s, has been struggling with some serious health issues that doctors can’t seem to pinpoint a cause for. I’m struggling with the fact that no one thinks of diet as a starting point to good health. Everyone want a pill or a surgery to fix it five minutes ago. But that doesn’t do any good if your current diet is what’s killing you. And how do you know it will or won’t help unless you try? Plus it costs less to alter a diet than it does to pay ‘expert’ physicians, surgeons, and specialists. I just want to scream in frustration. He’s a good husband and father and this unexplained sickness is tearing him away from everything he cares about. Your prayers would be much appreciated.

Conclusion

Thanks for stopping in today. I just needed to vent, I guess. I’m so weighed down with my cousin’s struggle. I hope you’ll forgive me if that’s not what you expected in today’s post. And I hope you’ll come back Tuesday for the next prompt story. I hope to get more fantasy into the mix, but contemporary slice-of-life has been popping up most often in my mind. Could be because that’s mostly what I’ve been reading… Heh!

Until next time…
Keep turning pages.
